Newcastle City Council will be all about reduce, reuse and recycle after receiving more than $900,000 to reduce waste and improve the local environment.

As a participating council in the Waste and Sustainability Improvement Payment (WaSIP) program, Newcastle City Council will receive funding to;

– Implement a community waste and recycling program
– Identify and investigate implementing resource recovery options for Council operations
– Provide community E-waste events,
– Chemical collection services and mattress drop-off events
– Residential bin audits, and
– Develop a comprehensive residential waste collection and service calendar for residents

Newcastle MP, Tim Owen said the State Government is helping councils to reduce waste and cut down on illegal dumping.

“Today’s announcement will help our community through supporting Newcastle City Council to deliver more waste resources and initiatives.

“The Government is committed to giving local communities the resources they need and
is another boost for the environment, following the announcement of our tough new
illegal dumping laws only two weeks ago,” he said.
