FORGACS WORKERS STOP ROLLING STRIKE

Ship builder Forgacs has temporarily averted further mass strikes, with workers today agreeing to consider a new pay offer which will be given to them in writing tomorrow.

Around half of what’s believed to be a 600-strong workforce showed up to take part in the vote during a 24-hour stop work.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says Forgacs is proposing a wage increase of 3.5 per cent over two years, and 3.75 per cent for the third year.

Workers will decide next Thursday whether they’ll accept the deal.
