COAL WORKERS VOTE FOR MORE STRIKE ACTION

Port Waratah Coal Services workers have voted to step-up their industrial action over what they claim is a threat to their work rights.

More than 200 workers downed tools for four hours today in Newcastle and at a rally endorsed eight,12 and 24 hour stoppages over the next fortnight. There’ll also be bans on overtime and working outside classifications.

The four unions representing the workers, say PWCS’s current offer removes limits on the use of outside contractors and gives employees less say on work hours and shifts.

Talks between the unions and PWCS will resume next week.
