OLYMPIC GREAT LAUREN JACKSON LINKS WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN NEWCASTLE

She might be taking a break from basketball following a hectic 12 months, but Australian captain Lauren Jackson isn’t planning to step away from sport altogether.
Today she was appointed as the first ambassador to the Asia Pacific Special Olympics, to be held in Newcastle.
“I’m a fan of sport and a lot of these athletes are competing in many different sports so it’s just going to be fun to watch, a great atmosphere, great city.”
More than 2,500 athletes from 32 countries will compete in a variety of sports, with the opening ceremony taking place at Hunter Stadium on the first of December.
“We do have a goal and that is to fill this stadium, to celebrate and support people with an intellectual disability.”
