Repairs to Eastern Dorrigo Way on the mid north coast could take up to ten weeks to complete.
A section of the mountain road collapsed during the recent wet weather that swept across the region.
Coffs Harbour City Council says the road will be closed to motorists between 9am and 4pm every day except Sundays.
However, locals will be given a five minute opportunity to drive past the site at midday, Monday to Saturday.
