FLOODING SURROUNDS HINTON

The SES was called 280 times for help over the past three days.

Most, in the past 24 hours, coming from flood-affected areas of Morpeth and Hinton.

In Morpeth, the Hunter River broke its banks, quickly leaving some livestock stranded.

Some properties were cut off in Hinton, as water reached the local hotel, and isolated homes.

“Hasn’t been in the pub since 1955. There’s a couple of houses down here but people are okay. They’re two storey places set up for floods. 516 other than that there’s a house across the river on the flat..it’s got water in it now.”

  1. I am very surprised that the flooding in the lower hunter around Maitland area including Morpeth, Hinton and Seaham is not worthy of news on the six o’clock edition . It makes me wonder if NBN’s commitment to the Hunter is a thing of the past. I did notice that the Polar bear got a large amount of time on the nightly news. I hope te lower Hunter has better coverage in the future. PS . I Live in the area and found out about the flooding on Facebook and now I wonder if the bus is going to make he trip through the flood waters tomorrow.

  2. With the recent floods in Hinton & surrounding areas it is a real pain for the locals who are trying to get livestock to safety to have so many rubber neckers just driving through to have a look
