The Federal Government has deferred a decision on two coal mines near Boggabri,
including the Whitehaven Maules Creek project and extension of the Idemitsu coal mine.
The time frame has been extended until April 30, giving the Government another three months to consider the projects.
Around 6 percent was wiped from Whitehaven shares following the announcement, which jeopardises the company’s plans to start producing coal from the mine by mid next year.
