THUNDERSTORMS HIT THE HUNTER

The Central Coast and parts of the Hunter are being urged to brace for large hailstones, heavy rain and damaging winds as thunderstorms roll in this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Maitland and Cessnock.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Maitland, Kurri Kurri, West Wallsend, Cardiff, Boolaroo and Beresfield and were moving towards the southeast.

They are forecast to affect Newcastle City, Belmont, Charlestown, Wallsend, Swansea and Hexham by 5:15 pm and Williamtown by 5:45 pm.

A flood watch is is place for the Paterson and Williams Rivers and at Scone, with warnings of minor to moderate flooding.
