A man has been charged over an alleged machete attack in Hamilton last night.
Police say an 18-year-old man and his girlfriend were on the corner of Cleary and Beaumont Streets at 9:30pm when they saw four men allegedly attacking another man.
The 18-year-old went to intervene and police say one of the men produced a machete, striking the man’s forearm with the blade.
He fled and staff at the Kent Hotel detained the armed man.
The 24-year-old man was this morning charged with reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was released on bail, set to appear in Newcastle Local Court on the 22nd January.
