HUNTER VALLEY COAL TRAIN DERAILMENT

A coal train derailment has blocked deliveries from two Upper Hunter mines.

Several locomotives and fully laden wagons came off the tracks on a rail loop between the Drayton and Mt Arthur operations south of Muswellbrook.

No one was injured in the incident which occurred about 6.30pm Monday.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation says the train derailed on a privately owned rail loop, and hasn’t blocked the region’s main coal line to the port of Newcastle.

The clean up is expected to take some time, with deliveries from the Drayton and Mt Arthur mines to be blocked for another day or so.
