LISMORE LEVY READY FOR THE WET SEASON
After three years of fundraising, planning and plenty of labour, Lismore’s flood levy is ready to protect the city from excessive rain, once more.
Federal member for Page, Janelle Saffin and Lismore MP, Thomas George inspected the handiwork today – both parties instrumental in securing the $2.8 million needed to complete the project.
“It’s built to last, it’s got 60 piles at the bottom so it won’t slip anymore. They are twelve meters into the riverbank, so if it slips – it’s going to be a massive flood.”
The levee wall cracked in 2009 when flooding caused the foundations to subside.
