MINISTER RESPONDS TO CLAIMS ABOUT NEWCASTLE BUS OPERATOR

The Transport Minister has responded to claims Newcastle’s bus network isn’t up to scratch, following the takeover by private operator Keolis Downer.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union says there have a number of issues, such as slower services and failing to pay drivers properly.

“We need to bed these things down, like we need to bed down a new timetable and they typically do take time for the community to respond settling in and in that case there’s been elements to they way in which the operator has performed, no doubt about that and our expectations is to work with them and fix it,” said Transport Minister, Andrew Constance.
