UPPER COOPERS CREEK A DISASTER ZONE

More than 100 residents living past the landslip on Upper Coopers Creek Road have been completely cut off, after council was forced to cut pedestrian access amid safety fears.

Over 100 metres of the roadway is on the brink of crumbling.

“They’ve got waste that’s piling up they are going to have supply issues as far as gas and when you are helicoptering people in and out it’s clearly a dire situation.”

Council is now campaigning to have the area declared a natural disaster zone.

  1. The road closure to pedestrians is only a measure taken because of what could happen, but we still walk across and some of us don’t feel it’s unsafe. The council has to be seen to address it for safety not only for community members but also to cover themselves. Workers and heavy machinery and even the school bus crossed this area as late yesterday so how can it be so dangerous if this can be allowed.
