Despite strong community opposition, the State Government’s recommended its approval, but the final decision now rests with the Planning Assessment Commission.

  1. When I saw the report on the Lismore Quarry last night it revisited where we were in 2000/2001 and it continues today.

We live near a quarry at Valla. The residents fought against it’s expansion both with a pro quarry council and at the Land and Environment Court. Many had sleepless nights wondering how we could pay the legals. Anyway we received many conditions of consent imposed on the quarry. Today I believe that the mining group have all the power and we are expendable. We put up with noise at anytime during the operating hrs of 7-6pm Mon-Friday and 7-1pm Saturdays. Loud banging and crashing of rock and metal occur frequently. Our appeals for help take ages to be acted on, if at all. My heart goes out to the residents like us who live near a quarry, I say to them fight with every bit you have because once the D/A is passed just like us they will be expendable. We too are getting older and would like to move on. Fat chance with this monstrosity wrecking our beautiful scenic backdrop and the noise we are subjected to. I hope that was speaking my mind.

  2. Further to my previous comments re the proposed expansion to this quarry, if the planning department push this through they must be responsible for the coming road damage. No Council can afford to repair the damage the quarry trucks do to local roads. We now dodge large cracks and holes in Valla Rd, mainly caused by these trucks, not to mention dodging the unresponsible truck drivers, these are not the majority of drivers but there are a few. Unfortunately usually we meet them on the most dangerous corners.
