A family of five are lucky to be alive after fire tore through their Evans Head home in the early hours of this morning.
Fire fighters were called to the blaze on Wirraway Avenue at two o’clock, and arrived to find the house fully engulfed by flames.
The occupants, two adults and three teenage children, were woken by a smoke alarm and managed to escape the inferno by climbing out of an upstairs window.
Investigations are ongoing but fire fighters believe the blaze may have been sparked by a cigarette that had not been put out properly.
