Two of Australia’s most popular politicians could go head to head at the next federal election.
Popular Northern Tablelands MP Richard Torbay will announce today he’ll contest pre-selection for the Nationals in the seat of New England. If successful, he’ll face Independent Tony Windsor.
New South Wales Deputy premier and Nationals leader Andrew Stoner said the New South Wales Coaltion had worked closely with Richard Torbay on a number of issues over the past 12 months.
“Richard has an important role ahead to restore good government to New England and to Australia – The Nationals team will be right alongside him,” he said in a statement.
Richard Torbay is expected to join the Nationals so he can qualify for preselection, but remain an Independent in State Pariament.
