FAIRFAX GOES AHEAD WITH JOB CUTS

Fairfax will go ahead with its plan to shift 41 Newcastle Herald editorial production jobs offshore to New Zealand.

Union representatives met with Fairfax today after The Media Alliance tabled an alternative proposal to the company where production jobs would remain in-house as part of a multi-platform “sub hub.”

The jobs will be lost across regional papers The Herald, Newcastle Star, Port Stephens Examiner, Lakes Mail, and Myall Coast Nota.

An additional 25 jobs will also be cut from the Illawarra Mercury.
