INQUEST TOLD NEIGHBOUR HEARD CRIES FOR HELP

An inquest into the 1991 death of a Narrabri woman has revealed how cries were heard on the night Penny Hill was found brutally beaten in Coolah.

She was working as a nanny at a motel at the time, and neighbours have told the court they heard noises hours before she was found.

Leeola Davis said she heard a woman plead “help me, please help me”, but thought it was a dream.

The coroner also heard the first time Mrs Davis and her husband Stephen were asked to provide written statements was March 2010 – almost two decades after the incident.

The inquest is expected to conclude on Thursday.
