An 18-year-old man has been charged with possession of child abuse material.
Yesterday afternoon officers attended a school in Jesmond after reports that students were acting suspiciously and inspected the mobile of the 18-year-old student.
They allegedly found innapropriate images of younger children.
Officers then searched a property in Mayfield East and seized a desktop computer, USB stick and DVD’s.
Police say images depicting child abuse were allegedly found on the computer.
He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 29 May 2012.
