CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FORSTER

More than 700 of the state’s top tri-athletes have descended on Forster Keys, for the New South Wales Club Championships.

Around 30 clubs competed in the event, which is the last major competition on the tri-athlon calendar.

“This event is probably quite unique to New South Wales actually in Australia. It’s recognised as the only really enthusiastic event where instead of racing as an individual, which is normally the case in triathlon, it’s actually about racing for your club.”

Competitors aged between 15 and 75 years began the race with a 1-kilometre swim, followed by a 30-kay cycle and finally an 8-kilometre run.

For the dedicated athletes, the event was also a warm-up for next weekend’s Ironman challenge in Port Macquarie.
