NEW SURFING EVENT LAUNCHED TO REPLACE GROMFEST

Lennox Head is set to host a new premier grommet surfing event this year.

It’s to replace the Rusty Gromfest which was cancelled after the major sponsor pulled the plug.

The new Skullcandy Oz Grom Open hopes to attract around 200 national and international surfers under the age of 16 in four categories.

It’ll take on a format similar to a World Championship Tour event.

Which is going to involve a reparcharge round but also ending in a man to man format and hopefully jetski assist, which is something this age group has never had.

The tournament will be held across five days in July with $50,000 worth of cash and prizes up for grabs.
