ANOTHER ORICA SPILL NEWCASTLE

At around 7.20 last night Orica reported the release of an estimated three to five litres of nitric acid at its Kooragang Island Nitric Acid Plant AT Newcastle. The spill considered to be minor was reported to the EPA, Emergency Services and other agencies.
During a routine inspection, Orica detected the nitric acid release from the NAP3 plant onto the ground and the company says the release was fully contained on site.
Orica is investigating the cause of the release. There is no risk to the community, the environment or the plant from this event.
