A search is underway for a 75-year-old Sydney man who fell from a yacht that was attempting to negotiate a Port Maquarie bar this morning.
Marine Rescue was called out to assist on the Hastings River at about 10pm last night.
The crew told the rescue personnel they didn’t require immediate assistance and could wait until high tide to be towed.
The Marine Rescue crew returned about six hours later and took the yacht to a nearby marina.
It was then that two crew members noticed the captain was missing from the yacht.
A search was immediately coordinated with the help of Marine Rescue, the SES, local surf lifesavers and the Rural Fire Service helicopter.
Police say the captain was wearing a lifejacket, wet weather gear and was
in possession of an EPIRB.
