A program which has helped save up to 25-million litres of water a year has earned Port Macquarie-Hastings Council a prestigious accolade.
The council’s water loss management scheme won a New South Wales Excellence in the Environment Award.
The installation of new monitoring sensors has allowed the council to track leaks from six of its reticulation systems.
The water loss program has been adopted by 75 councils statewide, and has saved more than five billion litres of water a year since it started in 2007.
