GIRLS SAVED IN MAJOR SEA RESCUE

Moonee Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, became the scene of a major rescue operation this afternoon.

Just after midday, emergency crews responded to reports that three young girls were being dragged out to sea by a rip.

“Three of the girls we know went out with their surfboards and we saw from the sides they were in trouble and just rush out to try and help them.”

“About halfway out to the front of the headland yeah I should’ve jumped in a bit earlier, I was a little bit slow at reacting, but I got out there so saved them, sort of a bit scary.”

The girls were assessed by paramedics and treated for shock, while a 40 year-old man received cuts to his forehead in the rescue.

  1. I am the mum of one of the three girls that were in trouble in Moonee. I would like to request a copy of the news clip please. The families of all the girls and the dads that were involved in the rescue went back this afternoon to the place to recap the events and to have closure on the almost very tragic incident. I would like to thank all parties involved in the rescue and in particular the stranger ( a local man) on the surfboard who managed to keep the girls calm and helped my daughter to safety. The men showed great courage and just acted completely selfless.
