TAFE CAMPUS MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT

Port Macquarie’s TAFE campus has become more energy efficient, thanks to a half-million dollar upgrade to its commercial cooking facility.

25-year-old fridges and cool rooms have been replaced by “greener” alternatives, along with new air conditioning units and solar hot water.

The upgrade includes the installation of a new blast chiller to train students in the cook-chill method used to supply meals to hospitals, prisons and nursing homes.

The changes to the commercial cookery section are expected to substantially reduce energy usage at the TAFE campus.
