Two years after Newcastle’s Showcase Cinemas closed, its owners are being honoured for their contribution to the industry.
Margaret and Theo Goumas will receive the Motion Picture Benevolent Society’s Pioneer Couple of the Year award on Friday.
“Normally they have Cinemas Pioneer of the Year but this year they bent the rules to make it the first cinema couple of the year, so we’re really very honoured.”
The husband and wife team has been in the industry for 40 years, operating three cinemas in Newcastle, including the Showcase for 11 years.
“We created for the city of Newcastle ourselves, a very pleasant entertainment ah hub, and to be recognised by your peers I think that is most inspired.”
