IS YOUR SPARE FRIDGE COSTING YOU HUNDREDS?

Hunter residents are being encouraged to recycle their old or second fridges, as part of a state government-funded buyback scheme.

Eligible households are paid $35 to have fridges removed, degassed and recycled.

An estimated 50,000 second fridges are plugged in across the Maitland, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas.

“A lot of people have fridges just sitting there with beer in it and it’s just guzzling up energy, and you can actually save up to $265 a year if you give up your fridge to fridge buyback.”

Anyone interested can call 1800 708 401, or visit the fridge buyback website.
