Qantas long-haul pilots will take their first industrial action in 45 years from Friday.

Pilots want a new clause in their contracts to stop Qantas from potentially outsourcing to cheaper bases in Asia.

Oil and gas producer Santos has bought out Eastern Star Gas, which operates in the Gunnedah Basin.

Santos paid $924 million for the acquisition, which includes all of the company’s interests in the Pilliga, Narrabri and Gunnedah shires.

The New South Wales Farmers Conference is underway in Sydney, with Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, addressing hundreds of delegates.

The Farmer of the Year will be announced tomorrow, with Narrabri stud and commercial cattle producers, John and Liz Manchee, in the running.

And in sport, Tamworth football product Troy Hearfield says he’s happy to back on Australian soil, after stints in New Zealand and Indonesia.

The Central Coast Mariner is training with his new club in preparation for the A-League season.
