A BEEF WEEK WITH NO MEAT

Casino’s Beef Week has been dealt a blow, with the Northern Cooperative Meat Company withdrawing its support.

It comes on the back of Richmond Valley Council’s decision to push ahead with changes to the way it charges for water, which the co-op says will cost it an extra $1-million a year.

The iconic festival starts in nine weeks and organisers may be forced to scale it back.

“We’ll look at the festival as a whole and there may be some events that we need to look at seriously and may not be able to afford to go ahead with.”

The meat company has been providing half a tonne of patties for Beef Week’s popular beef industry breakfast, but that too is under a cloud.

“It’s a possibility. We have got a plan in place to keep that event going but we will need to finalise in the next week.”
