50 students from one of the worst-hit areas of northern Japan just happen to be in the Hunter, as part of an exchange program.
Many are from Kesennuma in the Miyagi prefecture, where it’s feared hundreds of people may have perished.
So far, just 11 of the students been able to contact relatives back home.
