An elderly man has died after being hit by a car at Belmont last night.
The 78-year-old was walking across Ross Street with his wife at around 7:40pm, when he was struck by a Toyota Camry, being driven by an 81-year-old woman.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, but passed away this morning.
Police are asking any witnesses to come forward and contact Lake Macquarie Police.
