FATHER LOOSES APPEAL AGAINST SENTENCE, FOR STARVATION DEATH OF DAUGHTER

A 49-year-old man, convicted of manslaughter over the starvation death of his seven-year-old daughter at Hawks Nest north of Newcastle, has lost an appeal against his sentence.
The man, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was given a non-parole period of 12 years back in 2009.

His appeal was today dismissed by three Supreme Court judges in Sydney.

The girl’s mother was sentenced to life behind bars without parole, and is believed to be planning her own appeal.
