Keys to the former Newcastle Post Office will be handed to the Awabakal Aboriginal Land Council within a month.
A cultural and tourism centre is still the land council’s preferred plan, after the Land and Environment Court ordered the state government transfer ownership.
Expressions of interest will be called in the next 3 to 6 months for any commercial ventures, which could accompany the cultural centre.
