A large plume of smoke blotted the Newcastle skyline just after 2.00pm when fire broke out in the garage of a property at Henson Avenue, Mayfield East. Police were on standby to evacuate neighbouring houses while fire fighters went about containing the blaze. A large LPG cyclinder in the garage was a cause of concern and was being vented by fire fighters.
