BALLINA, BYRON & TWEED MELANOMA CAPITALS OF NSW

New research has found that the northern New South Wales area has the worst melanoma rates in the state.

Ballina has the highest number of cases, with Byron and Tweed Heads also in the top five.

The Cancer Council says the strong beach culture in these areas may be to blame.

“Skin cancer rates are high on the North Coast but people are being really proactive and getting their skin checked and it’s really important to keep that up over summer.”

With summer approaching, The Cancer Council is reminding people to ‘slip, slop, slap’, seek shade and wear sunglasses.
