COOKS HILL UNIT DEVELOPMENT MAKES WAVES

A community group is fighting moves to build a multi-storey apartment complex in the Newcastle suburb of Cooks Hill, before a development application has even been lodged.

The group claims the 100-unit complex will destroy the amenity of the area, and cause traffic chaos.

  1. We really need the community to be aware of the proposed development of the Bimet Lodge Site. We believe it is a gross over development of the site which exceeds height regulations for this area. The proposed area is bounded by the Cooks Hill Heritage Area to the North, Newcastle Grammar School to the South, National Park Sporting Fields to the West and a Aged and Disabled Housing Estate to the East. The street that all vehicle access will come from is also part of the NSW Coastal Cycleway which links Fernleigh Track to the City.
Feel free to call me on 0449 715 779 – Public Exhibition of two weeks closes on Friday December 3rd, and we would love some assistance in spreading this infromatiion to the wider communtiy before the exhibition date closes. Interseting to note also that it is a $31 million development, and we requested the Council several times to extend the public exhibition period from the minimum two weeks, however they have refused. There have been less than twenty residents notified.
