  1. At least the Council spokesperson has finally admitted what the community knew all along. That the removal of these magnificent Figs is based on impacts to infrastructure & not a safety risk as has been incorrectly portrayed!

  2. Imagine being one of the Newcastle City Councillors who voted to have these majestic civic assets removed by relying on what is incorrect advice. Im sure no1 wants to be remembered for stuffing up such a beautiful civic precinct. I sincerely hope Councillors are listening & realise they have been led up the wrong garden path.

  3. How can Council proceed with removing these heritage trees when they now have a report provided by an experienced & well regarded aborist stating that they have been misinformed. So first we have extremely flawed risk data & now we have dodgy aborists report. Even Councils own spokesman acknowledged that this is a infrastructure concern not the scary safety spin. Sorry Council but this problem is not resolved & you must fix it based on fact, or else risk losing all community confidence.

  4. What an insightful arborist this man is with his detailed observations of the obvious untrustworthy nature of the Council reports!
Thoroughly enjoyable read~ I do hope this information reaches the desks of those councilors who raised their hands to have the figs razed to the ground & PLEASE have a camera at the ready for an attachment of the pic of their red faces , along with an apology to the ratepayers & a garden party, at council expense, under the figs to celebrate their ongoing glory & life .

  5. reminds me of that song…’paved paradise, to put up a parking lot’. Nice work Newcastle council. Maybe you should be more concerned with beautifying your inner city than needlessly destroying these historically significant trees. The only danger I see here, are the actions of this council.
