MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTACKING POLICE DOG

A man wanted on outstanding warrants has been arrested on the Mid North Coast, after earlier evading officers and allegedly attacking a police dog.

Officers attended a home at Collambatti, north of Kempsey, and attempted to speak with a man wanted on domestic violence charges.

The 28-year-old ran from the scene, before he was tracked down in nearby bushland where it’s alleged he assaulted a police dog.

The dog wasn’t injured, while the man managed to evade police.

A search of the home uncovered a number of cannabis plants, along with a firearm.

Following inquiries, the 28-year-old was arrested at an address on Gowrie Road at Wauchope.

He was charged with the outstanding warrants, along with several other offences.
