TRUCK DRIVER DIES IN OXLEY HIGHWAY CRASH

A man has died after the truck he was driving left the road and crashed into a dam west of Wauchope. Emergency services were called to the Oxley Highway at Yarras just after lunchtime on Tuesday, following reports a Pantech truck had left the road. The truck came to rest in a nearby dam. The driver died at the scene.

MAN WANTED BY POLICE CHARGED AND REFUSED BAIL

A man wanted by police on domestic violence charges, has also been charged with cruelty to a police dog. Police say the 28-year-old ran away when they attempted to speak with him at his Collambatti home. It’s alleged the man assaulted a police dog with a stick while being tracked in bushland. The man was later arrested at a home in Wauchope. Today he was refused bail to appear in Kempsey Local Court on Febuary 4.

MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTACKING POLICE DOG

A man wanted on outstanding warrants has been arrested on the Mid North Coast, after earlier evading officers and allegedly attacking a police dog. Officers attended a home at Collambatti, north of Kempsey, and attempted to speak with a man wanted on domestic violence charges. The 28-year-old ran from the scene, before he was tracked down in nearby bushland where it’s alleged he assaulted a police dog. The dog wasn’t injured, while the man managed to evade police. A search of the home uncovered a number of cannabis plants, along with a firearm. Following inquiries, the 28-year-old was arrested at an address on Gowrie Road at Wauchope. He was charged with the outstanding warrants, along with several other offences.

TRAFFIC CHANGES AT SPENCERS CUTTING AT WAUCHOPE

Motorists are being asked to plan ahead, with changed traffic conditions on the Oxley Highway at Spencers Cutting from this Sunday. Lanes will be closed to enable the construction of pavement along a 1.2-kilometre stretch of the road. Work will be carried out between 6pm and 6am with a reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour in place for safety. Depending on the weather, work is expected to be complete by Friday January 25. POLICE SEEK WITNESSES AFTER WAUCHOPE FIRE

Investigations are underway after a fire broke out at a residential property in Wauchope. Emergency services were called to the scene just off High Street at around 5:30 yesterday afternoon to find a caretaker residence in a paddock well alight. Fire crews were quick to extinguish the blaze but two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown and is being treated as suspicious. Anyone who may have been in the area before the blaze took hold is urged to contact police. (NO AUDIO – VISION ONLY)

MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AT WAUCHOPE

A man has been charged with the possession of firearms at Wauchope. Just before 11am yesterday, police searched a home on Industry Drive, allegedly finding three firearms and ammunition. A 21-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with possessing unregistered firearms and possessing ammunition. The man was refused bail and appeared in Port Macquarie local court today.

HOLLIS GETS ORIGIN CALL-UP

Wauchope teenager David Hollis is about to realise his rugby league dreams. He’s been named in the final New South Wales under 16s squad, to take on Queensland in next week’s Origin 3 curtain-raiser. Hollis moved to Sydney at the start of the year to play for the Parramatta Eels. He’s previously made the state and national schoolboy teams, but this will be the first time he pulls on the Blues jersey.
