Arson is suspected in a fire that gutted a commercial building in Southport.
It’s the third fire in as many weeks at the Olympic Circuit property.
I am the manager at Tanlovers upstairs at the premises in Olympic Circuit and the fire was far more extensive than anyone realises.The fire raged unchecked due to apparently failure of smoke detectors which would have possibly prevented the massive damage and saved the building and businesses which is so devestating.The fire was not in the gym but the opposite side at a child care centre downstairs,which has been totally destroyed,upstairs child training centre was gutted,As the fire went through the common rondo ceiling as there was NO fire check in place it has crossed over into multiple businesses including Tanlovers. All businesses suffered extensive smoke and oil soot/water damage which has still brought it all to a standstill. Tanlovers is closed and unable to reopen in premises as all upstairs area will need to have ceiling and electrical data aircon etc all redone,Electricity is not restored to any of those sections. Majority of Building is being emptied as we are not able to operate in any form.Some Businesses were in process of moving and are doing so although were quite damaged ,Others have been almost wiped out.Stories on the net are absolute rubbish,Gym while affected recieved smoke and water damage are undergoing major cleanup as new owner has put a hell of a lot into refits as many of us have already prior to this fire whereas we businesses on the upper middle and otherside have all but been wiped out. Most businesses could not contact any clients as most had backups in business and until Arson and forensics cleared it we were unable to even review damage.News reporters need to get facts not just ramble on.The story here is a lot bigger than people realise as to how fire got to where it did was quite possibly preventable in the first place.This is my personal view only although I have spent last 24 hrs up in there going thru mess.

Better yet, when you buy something really expensive that you really love, that someone demolishes it.
As to why someone would want to do this i cannot understand, nor can i understand how long it took for the fire to be detected. Best of luck to staff and family of these businesses. And to the people who did this, i hope you get whats coming for you!!!
