A major assessment of fish stocks and the marine environment off the mid north coast is to be undertaken by the federal government.
Environment Minister, Peter Garret, say the project will help determine which areas are appropriate for multiple use and which should be declared no-take zones.
The area of Commonwealth waters from Brooms Head to Hat Head will be the subject of the scientific assessment and consultation, which will be used to protect the marine environment.
Minister Garret says the survey won’t have any regulatory impact on current users such as recreational fishers and tourism operators.
