Two French tourists owe their lives to a couple of brave locals – after getting getting into trouble in powerful swell at Kirra yesterday evening.
The pair ventured out when lifeguards were off duty, and got caught in a rip.
Some locals saw them in trouble, and rescued them with their surfboards.
“It was a terrible place to go in.. It was a terrible time to go in after lifeguards had finished duty.. They were very very lucky.”
Paramedics were called, but remarkably the pair didn’t need treatment.
