TAREE TREMBLES AFTER OFF-SHORE EARTHQUAKE

An off-shore earthquake measuring 3.6 on the richter scale left mid north coast residents shaken this morning.

The quake occured just before midday in the Tasman Sea, about 50 kilometres off Taree.

Most reports of the tremor came from Taree and Forster, however some people felt it as far away as Port Macquarie and the northern suburbs of Newcastle.

There have been no reports of damage and Australian Geoscience says the quake was too small for there to be any risk of a tsunami.
