INVERELL’S CARBON FOOTPRINT GOES UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

Inverell Shire Council will soon put it’s energy use under the microscope.

The Office of Environment and Heritage will be testing the size of Council’s carbon footprint.

But the Mayor is confident they’ve been proactive.

“We have a lot of solar lights in town, we also have a lot of solar energy on all our Council buildings – the Council Chambers, the library, the Council workshop, the works depot,” Inverell Shire Council Mayor Paul Harmon.

The data will then be compared to other Council’s across the state.

“It’s also something where we can hold up our flag and say, look we’re doing our bit for the environment and it may also be a great tool for us to leverage any funding opportunities that may be available to further reduce our carbon footprint.”
