ACMENA JUVENILE CENTRE TO BE EXPANDED

Construction is set to begin on the $8.5-million expansion of Grafton’s Acmena Juvenile Justice Centre.

Kempsey firm, O’Donnell and Hanlon, has been awarded the contract for the $500,000 of early works, which will begin immediately.

The main works at the centre will begin in July ,with the construction of 15 new beds and new communal and teaching facilities.

The expansion of Acmena from 30 to 45 beds will help address an increase in the number of young people in custody and provide a safer working environment for staff.

The work is expected to be completed by late 2010.
