RATE RISE FOR MOREE AND LIVERPOOL PLAINS

Two northwest councils will ask for special rate rises to cover the cost of road maintenance.

Liverpool Plains will push for a 10 per cent increase, seven per cent above the increase allowed by the Minister for Local Government.

If given the nod, the council would raise an extra $350,000.

Meanwhile Moree Plains Shire has voted for a rate hike of 6.7 per cent which, if approved, will allow the council to spend $1.5-million on its roads.
