HEALTH BUDGET BLOW OUT

Hunter New England Health has responded to claims of a $12.2-million budget blow out for this financial year.

A spokesperson says while the deficit highlighted the need for responsible budgeting, there are no plans to cut front line nursing staff.

Today Tamworth based Nationals MLC, Trevor Khan, suggested Hunter New England Health could be $25 million in the red by the end of June.

Mr Khan is calling on the state government to explain how costs will be controlled without impacting health services.
