CARMICHAEL ON COLLISION COURSE WITH ACE

After his heroics in the Australian Boardriders Battle Final, Wade Carmichael left it late to secure a win in his opening heat. MIXED RESULTS FOR COAST TRIO AT SNAPPER

Avoca’s Wade Carmichael has fallen short in the opening round at the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast. He posted the highest score of the heat – an 8.93, but it wasn’t enough to defeat three time World Champion Mick Fanning. Adrian Buchan will also have do it the hard way – finishing third behind Jeremy Flores and World Tour rookie Davey Cathels. The news was better for Copacabana’s Matt Wilkinson, who downed Kelly Slater and Conner Coffin to advance to Round three.

WILKO ADVANCES AT OZ OPEN

Central Coast competitors have had a mixed day at the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly. Wade Carmichael and Macy Callaghan both suffered agonising defeats, while Surfest winner Matt Wilkinson continued his charge – advancing to Round Five.

NO PIPE DREAM FOR COAST CONTINGENT

The Central Coast contingent were all beaten this morning at the legendary Pipe Masters. Adrian Buchan finished second behind Brazilian Italo Ferreira, with his best wave of six point three. In the same heat, Glenn Hall suffered one of the worst wipe outs of the day. Wade Carmichael and Matt Wilkinson both finished third in their respective heats, and will surf in Round Two tomorrow.
