UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE MOVES INTO AUSTRALIAN TOP 10

The University of Newcastle has been ranked in the top 10 universities in Australia.

The ranking follows the release of the QS World University Rankings today. The move into the top 10 is five places better than last year. There are 39 universities across Australia.

Internationally, the university is ranked 257th, a jump of 41 places on last, making Newcastle the fastest rising institution in Australia.

The rankings are compiled from international surveys of academics and employers while education and research data is also used. Six indicators are then used to determine performance: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations of a uni’s research, ratio of academic staff to students and percentage of international staff and students.

University of Newcastle Vice Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen says it’s a great result.

“The University and our community can be very proud of this independent international assessment, measuring us against the world’s best.

“Our overall improvement in the QS rankings this year includes some excellent outcomes in individual ranking categories, which highlight our focus on academic quality and graduate employability,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
